About

Charter and Mission

IEEE AgeTech is dedicated to enhancing quality of life, independence, and overall well-being for older adults and individuals with accessibility needs. The initiative brings together expertise from across IEEE’s many technical communities and extends that collaboration beyond IEEE itself—connecting with universities, start‑ups, established companies, non‑profit organizations, and government agencies around the world.

Through these partnerships, IEEE AgeTech serves as a catalyst for new activities, projects, and standards that accelerate innovation, improve market adoption, promote aging-responsive and accessible design, and enhance the real-world effectiveness of AgeTech solutions.

Objectives

Seniors using technology

The IEEE AgeTech initiative aims to:

  • Stimulate innovation in technology solutions that improve both the effectiveness and adoption of AgeTech.
  • Develop resources, frameworks, and tools that support aging-responsive and accessible design of products and services.
  • Increase the availability, usability, and quality of aging- and accessibility-related datasets to advance research, development, and standards activities in AgeTech.

Activities

To advance its mission, IEEE AgeTech plans to pursue the following activities:

  • Workshops bringing together researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders across domains
  • Innovation Challenges to inspire novel AgeTech concepts and applications
  • Technology Roadmaps identifying emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities
  • AgeTech Resource Center (ARCH) to curate and share tools, references, and best practices
  • Standards Gaps Analyses to inform future standards development

AgeTech spans a wide spectrum of technologies. IEEE AgeTech will initially focus on the following technology areas.
